My husband and I tried to have children for about 8 years. When we were still unable to have children with the help of medicine, we decided to look at other options to start a family. That’s when we found out about Covenant Care Services (CCS) through a family friend who adopted a baby through CCS. Once we started our journey with them, were very excited about the child God would bring to us. We completed all the paperwork and began the hardest part of our adoption journey…waiting.
As adoptive families know, the waiting is the hardest part. To try to make the most of our waiting, we prayed for the birthparents of our child, we helped out in the church nursery and we bought items that we would need later (as much as we could without knowing if we were having a boy or a girl!). Even though this time was not easy, God did not waste even a minute of the time we waited – each one was used to prepare us and our baby for each other.
Finally the waiting was over. On a very typical Tuesday morning, I received a phone call from our Adoptions Caseworker. She told me that our profile had been selected. During our conversation, I told her my husband was out of town and she asked if he could come home today because they wanted to place the baby (a little girl) on Friday. That’s THREE days to get ready for a baby! Wow! Not only did I have to inform my employer that I would be taking maternity leave in two days but I also had to do some serious baby shopping! To say the least, it was a very hectic and exciting time!
That Friday is a day we will never forget and a day that we still celebrate. We will never forget the feeling of seeing and holding our daughter for the first time. We still look at each other in disbelief that God blessed us to be her parents. It is an overwhelming feeling to think of the love we have for her and how much love her birthparents have for her, too.
Since our adoption, I have volunteered at CCS and it is such a privilege to see the other many sides of Covenant Care - how much they really love and take care of the Birthparents, Foster Parents and Adoptive Parents. The Board and Staff of Covenant Care really have a heart for children and families. They have placed 500+ children in families through adoption and saved countless numbers of babies from abortion, including our little girl. We could not imagine our lives without her and do not want to imagine how different our life would be without Covenant Care.
I’m currently volunteering with CCS to plan the
Ridge Run, a 5K and Fun Run to benefit their work of adoption. The race will be on
August 28th on the beautiful streets connected to Ridge Avenue and Overlook Avenue in Macon. We’re taking registrations now and would love for the community to come out and run for adoption! Anyone can register online on
www.Active.com or call 478-475-4990 for more information. I hope to see you there!
