Adoption Process

What Can the Adoption Process Look Like?
Explore Your Options
Being pregnant can feel overwhelming. By educating yourself on all your options, you will be making an informed decision. There are excellent resources available to you in Georgia, such as your local pregnancy resource center, your OB/GYN, or a Counselor with Covenant Care.
Our support staff are called “Counselors” because they serve as your representative and help look out for your interests. We have counselors based in strategic locations throughout Georgia who will travel to wherever you live. She will meet you in your home, a restaurant, the library, or wherever you are most comfortable. Your Counselor will talk with you about your individual situation, specific needs and desires, and will answer your questions.
You can choose from the options below.

MEET YOUR COUNSELOR

CUSTOMIZE YOUR PLAN
Your Counselor will walk you through several important decisions, such as deciding the level of openness you are comfortable with and deciding the type of family you want for your baby. Your Counselor will meet with you as often as you need to think through these decisions. As a woman considering making an adoption placement, all services and resources are provided at no cost to you.
If you decide to make an adoption plan, your Counselor will show you profiles of waiting adoptive families who have been thoroughly screened and approved and who are a fit for your situation. After choosing a family, you have the option to meet them prior to your delivery or after the baby is placed. Nothing is permanent at this stage.

CHOOSE AN ADOPTIVE FAMILY

CREATE YOUR HOSPITAL PLAN
Preparing for delivery when you are placing a child for adoption can be difficult. Your Counselor will help prepare you emotionally for the hospital stay and delivery. If you want her to support you during your delivery, she can be in the delivery room with you and talk with the nurses and doctors about your adoption plan.

COMPLETE THE LEGAL PROCESS

MEET WITH THE ADOPTIVE FAMILY
IF DESIRED - THIS IS YOUR CHOICE
If you want to meet with the couple or family adopting your child, we can arrange this prior to the end of your pregnancy so you can ask questions. This is available as a part of an open-adoption plan. You can also decide whether or not you prefer to talk to them virtually or on the phone as well. How or if you want to meet is completely up to you.
