I Want to Give Up My Baby for Adoption

I’ve answered the phone many times to speak with a woman who starts the conversation saying,

“I want to give up my baby for adoption.”

Each woman calls for a different reason. To some, raising a child in her current life circumstances seems impossible. Others want to avoid Child Protective Services, who she’s worried will get involved because of her history, legal problems, or drug abuse. Others are overwhelmed raising the children they already have and can’t imagine parenting another.

What do all of these women have in common? They want to be empowered to make the best choice for themselves and their child. In the end, if adoption is the road they choose, they don’t “give up” a baby but instead make a plan that meets their needs AND the needs of their child.
