Choosing adoption is a deeply personal decision, and understanding your options can make the process feel more manageable and empowering. In Georgia, expectant mothers can shape an adoption plan that reflects their needs, comfort levels, and hopes for their child’s future.
Whether you want ongoing contact, limited updates, or complete privacy, knowing the different types of adoption can help you make the choice that feels right for you. Below is a clear breakdown of the adoption paths available in Georgia, and how Covenant Care walks with you through each one.

Open Adoption
What it is: The expectant mother and adoptive family maintain some level of ongoing contact. This can include letters, phone calls, emails, photos, or even in-person visits.
How it works: The degree of contact is agreed upon by both parties before the adoption is finalized. Open adoption helps pregnant mothers feel connected and reassured about the child’s well-being.
Covenant Care’s Role: Counselors help pregnant mothers choose the right family, explain what open adoption can look like, and facilitate a communication plan that respects her comfort and wishes.
Semi-Open Adoption
What it is: Limited, indirect, or direct contact occurs, often through Covenant Care. Expectant mothers might receive updates or photos without direct personal interaction.
How it works: The adoptive family sends updates (photos, letters, reports, even visits) through Covenant Care on a schedule both parties agree upon.
Covenant Care’s Role: Guides the pregnant mother in establishing boundaries, ensures she receives regular updates, and helps maintain a positive relationship with the adoptive family even at a distance. Covenant Care is with the expectant mother every step of the way to help foster and create that relationship.
Closed Adoption at Covenant Care
What it is: Covenant Care does closed adoption a bit differently. Instead of a fully closed, no information adoption we leave that decision up to the expectant mother. She can choose to never have any contact or updates but the adoptive family will provide them to Covenant Care, in case she were to change their mind.
How it works: Once the adoption is finalized, the expectant mother does not have to have any contact, updates, or information regarding the child or the family but retains the right to change her mind and learn more later.
Covenant Care’s Role: Provides counseling so pregnant mothers fully understand the implications of a closed adoption and ensures their choice is informed and voluntary. Post-adoption support is still offered for emotional processing.
